State Department unveils commemorative passport design featuring President Trump amid broader semiquincentennial celebrations
The U.S. State Department has announced the release of a limited-edition passport series this summer that will include imagery of President Donald Trump, as part of nationwide celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary.
The special passports are intended to commemorate the semiquincentennial of the United States and will feature redesigned artwork and historical imagery alongside enhanced security features, officials said.
Commemorative Design Highlights Presidential Imagery
According to a State Department spokesperson, the commemorative passport will include a prominent image of President Trump on the inside cover, superimposed over patriotic symbols such as the U.S. flag and the Declaration of Independence. The design also incorporates Trump’s signature in gold lettering.
Additional pages in the passport reportedly feature historical artwork depicting the signing of the Declaration of Independence, aligning the document with themes of American founding history.
Officials emphasized that despite the updated visuals, the passport will retain the same security standards as existing U.S. travel documents.
Limited Availability and Distribution
The special edition passports will initially be issued through the Washington Passport Agency as the default option while supplies last. Applicants using other locations or online services will continue to receive standard passport designs.
The State Department has not clarified how many of the commemorative passports will be produced or how long the design will remain in circulation.
Part of Broader 250th Anniversary Celebrations
The redesigned passport is part of a wider federal effort to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States in July. The initiative includes various commemorative projects highlighting American history and national identity.
A White House spokesperson described the passport design as a patriotic tribute tied to national celebrations, emphasizing themes of pride and historical reflection during the milestone year.
Expansion of Trump’s Presence in Federal Symbols
The passport announcement comes amid a series of other federal initiatives incorporating President Trump’s image or name into government-related symbols and materials.
Recent measures have included the introduction of a commemorative coin proposal featuring the president, as well as changes involving currency design discussions that would incorporate presidential signatures. In addition, Trump’s name and image have appeared in various public-facing federal programs and institutions.
Public and Political Attention Grows
The decision to include a sitting or recent president’s image in official travel documents is expected to draw political and public scrutiny, as U.S. passports have traditionally featured national symbols rather than political figures.
The State Department has not confirmed whether any previous U.S. passport designs have included a sitting president’s portrait.
As the 250th anniversary approaches, further commemorative initiatives are expected to be announced across federal agencies.
