GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Tyler Duckworth, a familiar face from MTV’s reality television franchise The Challenge, has died at age 44, authorities confirmed Friday.
Duckworth was found dead Tuesday at his home in Grand Forks, North Dakota, after police were called to conduct a welfare check, according to the Grand Forks Police Department.
Police did not immediately provide additional details about the circumstances surrounding his death. Representatives for Duckworth also had not publicly commented.
From ‘The Real World’ to ‘The Challenge’
Duckworth first became known to MTV viewers as a cast member on The Real World: Key West in 2006.
His appearance on the series led to a lengthy association with The Challenge, where contestants compete in physically and mentally demanding challenges.
He appeared in four seasons of the main competition between 2006 and 2011 and won two of those seasons.
Duckworth later returned to the franchise for The Challenge: All Stars, competing in two seasons in 2021 and 2022.
His performances helped establish him as one of the recognizable competitors from the show’s earlier era.
Recent Appearance With Former Castmates
Duckworth remained connected to the Challenge community after his television appearances.
Only weeks before his death, he attended a Challenge Mania event in Minneapolis, where he reunited with other former contestants and shared photographs from the gathering on social media.
In a recent post, Duckworth expressed appreciation for the show’s fans and said their stories and support continued to motivate former contestants to participate in franchise events.
His appearance at the event marked one of his most recent public connections with the reality TV community.
Former Competitors Pay Tribute
News of Duckworth’s death prompted tributes from fellow Challenge personalities.
Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, one of the franchise’s most recognizable competitors, shared a brief message on social media expressing his grief.
Wes Bergmann, another longtime Challenge contestant, remembered Duckworth as a talented competitor, friend and entertaining television personality.
Bergmann also highlighted Duckworth’s abilities in swimming and eating challenges, both of which were recurring elements of the franchise.
A Lasting Reality TV Legacy
Duckworth’s television career began during the mid-2000s, when The Real World and The Challenge were major parts of MTV’s reality programming lineup.
His two championship wins on The Challenge helped cement his reputation among longtime viewers, while his later appearances on All Stars introduced him to a newer generation of fans.
The circumstances of his death have not been publicly disclosed. Police confirmed only that he was found at his North Dakota residence following a welfare check.
Duckworth is survived by a community of former castmates and fans who remembered his years on MTV and his continued involvement with the franchise.
