The New York Knicks produced a night for the record books on Wednesday, overturning a staggering 29-point deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 107–106 in Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals. The victory not only gave New York a commanding 3–1 series lead but also marked the biggest comeback ever recorded in NBA Finals history.
At Madison Square Garden, an electric home crowd witnessed one of the most dramatic finishes ever seen on basketball’s biggest stage, capped by a last-second winning tip-in from OG Anunoby.
Spurs dominate early before Knicks mount historic turnaround
San Antonio appeared in full control for much of the first half, building a 27-point advantage by halftime through sharp offense and disciplined defense. The Spurs’ early dominance left the Knicks struggling to find rhythm on either end of the floor.
However, the momentum shifted in the third quarter when New York began to chip away at the lead. The Knicks tightened defensively, holding San Antonio to just 20% shooting in the period while outscoring them 26–14. A strong perimeter shooting stretch helped cut into the deficit and set the tone for a dramatic finish.
Fourth-quarter surge fuels New York’s comeback
Even entering the final quarter, the Spurs still held a comfortable margin, leading by as many as 20 points with just over nine minutes remaining. But the Knicks responded with a devastating 20–4 run over nearly five minutes, highlighted by key three-pointers that brought them within striking distance.
The game’s intensity escalated in the closing minutes, with multiple lead changes and high-pressure possessions defining the final stretch. A missed layup by Josh Hart and consecutive missed free throws from San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama added to the chaos as the Spurs began to unravel.
Jalen Brunson eventually gave New York its first lead of the night with just over a minute remaining, sending the Garden into a frenzy.
Final-minute drama seals unforgettable finish
The closing sequence delivered one of the most chaotic endings in Finals history. After San Antonio briefly regained the lead, the Knicks responded once again with clutch shooting from beyond the arc to stay within reach.
A critical defensive play by OG Anunoby on De’Aaron Fox in the final seconds proved decisive. Following the stop, Brunson attempted a potential game-winning shot, which was rebounded and tipped in by Anunoby with just 1.2 seconds remaining.
That basket ultimately sealed a 107–106 victory and completed the largest comeback ever in an NBA Finals game.
Knicks one win away from long-awaited championship
The win moves New York within one victory of securing its first NBA title in 53 years. The Knicks will have the opportunity to clinch the championship in Game 5 on Saturday, while the Spurs face elimination after a heartbreaking collapse.
Head coach Mike Brown praised Anunoby’s decisive effort on the offensive glass, calling it a defining moment in franchise postseason history. Players on both sides acknowledged the emotional weight of a game that swung dramatically in its final minutes.
