Iran Fires Missiles at Israel and U.S. Bases as Israeli Forces Strike Hezbollah Targets in Lebanon

Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply as Iran launched fresh missile strikes targeting Israel and several United States military installations across the region. The attacks came as Israeli forces initiated new airstrikes in Lebanon, focusing on areas linked to the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah.

Air raid sirens sounded across major Israeli cities including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, as defense systems moved to intercept incoming missiles.

Regional Conflict Intensifies

The latest escalation follows a series of intensified attacks by the United States and Israel against Iranian military and security targets. The conflict widened further after a U.S. submarine reportedly sank an Iranian naval vessel in the Indian Ocean earlier this week.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth indicated that the campaign against Iran could continue for an extended period.

Military operations targeting Iranian forces and strategic assets are expected to persist as Washington and its allies attempt to weaken Tehran’s military capabilities.

Israeli Strikes Hit Hezbollah Positions

Israel confirmed that it had launched new airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, a known stronghold of Hezbollah. Israeli military officials said the strikes targeted facilities connected to Iran’s regional security network and Hezbollah’s operational infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Israeli armored units were seen maneuvering near the Israel–Lebanon border, signaling the possibility of further military action.

Casualties and Damage Across the Region

The ongoing conflict has already caused significant casualties and damage across several countries in the Middle East.

Officials reported that:

  • More than 1,000 people have been killed in Iran
  • Over 70 deaths have been recorded in Lebanon
  • At least 11 people have died in Israel
  • Six U.S. troops have been killed during operations

The war has also disrupted transportation and commerce throughout the region, leaving hundreds of thousands of travelers stranded and causing major logistical challenges.

Oil Supply and Shipping Routes at Risk

Military tensions have begun affecting global trade routes, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit corridors.

Rising hostilities have led to:

  • Disruptions in maritime traffic
  • Sharp increases in oil prices
  • Volatility in global financial markets

Security agencies also reported an explosion near commercial shipping routes off the coast of Kuwait, raising concerns that merchant vessels could increasingly become targets.

Iran’s Leadership Transition Adds Uncertainty

The conflict has been further complicated by political developments in Tehran following the death of Ali Khamenei, who was killed at the start of the war.

Iran’s leadership is currently working to appoint a new supreme leader, marking only the second leadership transition since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Among the potential candidates is Mojtaba Khamenei, though he has never held an official government position.

Iranian officials say the country’s military command structure has been decentralized, allowing units to operate independently even if top leadership positions are disrupted.

Uncertain Timeline for the War

The duration and scope of the conflict remain unclear. According to Defense Secretary Hegseth, the campaign could last several weeks or longer, depending on developments on the ground.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump praised U.S. military operations, stating that American forces have already significantly weakened Iran’s military systems.

Despite the escalating hostilities, missile launches from Iran have reportedly declined as U.S. and Israeli strikes target launch sites and weapons infrastructure.

However, military analysts warn that the conflict could still expand across multiple fronts in the Middle East, posing risks to regional stability, global energy markets and international shipping.
