A Paris court awards Kim Kardashian 1 euro after her 2016 robbery

A Paris court has awarded Kim Kardashian a symbolic 1 euro in damages over the 2016 armed robbery in which she was held at gunpoint and robbed of millions of dollars’ worth of jewelry.

The amount was the same compensation Kardashian requested in connection with the case. The ruling came after a lengthy legal process stemming from the high-profile robbery during Paris Fashion Week.

Kardashian was staying at the Hôtel de Pourtalès when a group of men targeted her in the early hours of Oct. 2, 2016. The attackers stole jewelry valued at more than $6 million, including a diamond ring she had worn to a Givenchy fashion show.

Kardashian Says the Case Was About Accountability

Kardashian has previously described the incident as one of the most frightening experiences of her life.

Following the court proceedings, Kardashian and her stylist Simone Harouche expressed appreciation for the French justice system. They said the financial award was less important than recognition of what happened and accountability for those responsible.

Kardashian has said the robbery had a lasting effect on her and her family but that she wanted to move forward after the legal process concluded.

Hotel Worker Receives More Than €100,000

The court also awarded substantial damages to a former receptionist at the Paris hotel where Kardashian was staying.

The receptionist received approximately 109,516 euros ($126,472) after telling the court that the robbery had caused him significant trauma. He had sought about 550,000 euros in damages and interest.

The hotel itself was awarded 50,000 euros.

Harouche, who was present during the incident, was also awarded a symbolic 1 euro, matching the amount requested by Kardashian.

Attackers Disguised as Police Officers

The robbery began when two members of the group, dressed as police officers, gained access to Kardashian’s accommodation.

According to evidence presented in the case, the attackers restrained her with zip ties and tape before taking jewelry from the room.

The case attracted international attention because of both the value of the stolen items and the ages of several suspects. French media dubbed the defendants “les papys braqueurs,” or “the grandpa robbers,” because six of those tried were in their 60s or 70s at the time of the proceedings.

Eight Convicted in the Case

A French court previously found eight people guilty of offenses connected to the robbery.

Because several defendants had already spent time in pretrial detention, none of those convicted was returned to prison following the verdict. None appealed the convictions.

Kardashian welcomed the outcome after the earlier trial, saying she remained grateful to French authorities for pursuing the case.

The latest damages ruling marks another significant stage in the legal proceedings surrounding the 2016 robbery.

For Kardashian, however, the symbolic compensation reflects a broader point: after years of investigations and court proceedings, the case has provided formal recognition of the crime and its impact, allowing her to focus on moving forward.
