Owasso, Oklahoma: A social media influencer was killed by her estranged husband weeks after publicly accusing him of child abuse allegations on TikTok, according to police and court records.
Sara Gilson, 43, was fatally shot Thursday in Oklahoma by her husband, Jeremiah Duffey, who was known online as Shawn Duffey, authorities said. Police are investigating the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide.
TikTok Video Raised Allegations Against Husband
More than a month before her death, Gilson posted a TikTok video to her account, where she had over 30,000 followers, accusing Duffey of being a pedophile.
The post referenced a popular social media trend where users create fictional Netflix-style documentary announcements.
Gilson wrote that a documentary about her soon-to-be ex-husband could be released, adding that she wished the situation was not real.
The video was posted shortly before her death and attracted widespread attention online.
Protective Order Issued After Child Abuse Report
According to police, Gilson had already taken legal action against Duffey before making the TikTok post.
Authorities said a child and a parent reported that Duffey, who coached the girl’s traveling basketball team, allegedly touched the minor inappropriately during an event at an elementary school.
Another coach reportedly witnessed the incident, intervened, and notified the child’s family.
Police said similar allegations involving the same minor had reportedly been made over an extended period and across multiple jurisdictions.
Following the report, authorities provided Gilson with information about obtaining legal protection. She filed for and received an emergency protective order on June 10.
The order required Duffey to stay away from Gilson and her home.
Police Respond to Fatal Shooting
Police said officers responded to a domestic violence call at a residence in Collinsville, Oklahoma, after a 911 dispatcher heard a woman screaming followed by what sounded like a gunshot.
A child later called emergency services from a neighbor’s home and reported that his stepfather had shot his mother.
When officers arrived, they found Gilson and Duffey dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, but early findings indicate the incident was a murder-suicide.
Family Remembers Gilson as Dedicated Mother
Gilson’s children were placed under protective care following the incident and were later released to a family member who was not involved.
An online fundraiser created for her children described Gilson as a devoted mother who placed her children at the center of her life.
“She loved them fiercely, worked hard to provide for them, and dreamed of giving them the best life possible,” the fundraiser stated.
Investigation Continues
Authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the timeline of events leading up to Gilson’s death.
Officials have encouraged anyone with relevant information to cooperate with investigators as they work to determine the full details of the case.
