CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A trailer carrying a large load of fireworks erupted into flames and exploded on Interstate 75 in eastern Tennessee on Saturday evening, sending fireworks shooting across the highway in a dramatic scene captured on cellphone video.
Authorities said the incident temporarily shut down the busy roadway as emergency crews worked to contain the blaze and prevent further danger to passing motorists.
Fire Breaks Out on Moving Work Truck
The incident occurred near Ooltewah, roughly 25 miles east of Chattanooga, when a work truck towing a box trailer suddenly caught fire while traveling northbound on Interstate 75.
Fire officials said responders were dispatched after reports of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, they discovered the trailer fully engulfed in flames and loaded with fireworks that were rapidly igniting.
