New York Knicks advance to first NBA Finals since 1999

The New York Knicks are headed back to the NBA Finals for the first time in more than two decades after crushing the Cleveland Cavaliers 130-93 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The emphatic victory completed a four-game sweep and ended one of the longest championship-round absences among the NBA’s most historic franchises. New York will now compete in its first NBA Finals appearance since 1999.

Knicks Deliver Historic Playoff Run

New York has emerged as one of the most dominant postseason teams in recent NBA history.

The Knicks have now won 11 consecutive playoff games, many by overwhelming margins, turning what initially looked like a difficult postseason into a remarkable championship run.

Game 4 in Cleveland followed the same pattern. After briefly trailing early in the first quarter, the Knicks seized control and never looked back, overwhelming the Cavaliers on both ends of the floor.

The team connected on 19 three-pointers while holding Cleveland to just 11 from beyond the arc. Bench contributions also proved critical, with sharpshooter Landry Shamet delivering a perfect shooting performance from deep.

Karl-Anthony Towns Leads Balanced Knicks Attack

Star forward Karl-Anthony Towns led New York with 19 points and 14 rebounds, anchoring a balanced offensive effort that featured contributions across the roster.

Meanwhile, All-Star guard Jalen Brunson added 15 points without committing a turnover, continuing his steady leadership throughout the playoffs.

The Knicks’ defensive intensity also limited Cleveland’s offensive rhythm, helping turn the elimination game into a one-sided rout.

First Finals Appearance Since 1999

The franchise’s return to the Finals marks a major milestone after years of playoff disappointment.

Since the early 2000s, the Knicks struggled through rebuilding seasons, coaching changes, and limited postseason success. Between 2001 and 2024, the team won only three playoff series combined.

The turnaround accelerated in 2022 when Brunson joined the franchise and developed into one of the league’s premier guards. New York later reshaped its roster around him, adding Towns and other key pieces to strengthen its championship ambitions.

This season, the Knicks finished with one of the best records in the Eastern Conference before carrying that momentum into the playoffs.

Coaching Change Sparks New Era

Another major factor behind New York’s resurgence was the hiring of head coach Mike Brown after the departure of former coach Tom Thibodeau.

Brown was tasked with improving team chemistry and maximizing the talent on a roster filled with offensive firepower. His adjustments helped transform the Knicks into one of the league’s most complete teams during the postseason.

The Knicks now enter the Finals with significant rest after sweeping Cleveland, while the Western Conference Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs remains tied.

New York Chases First NBA Title Since 1973

The Knicks are now just four wins away from capturing their first NBA championship since 1973 and adding a third title in franchise history.

The team’s recent playoff dominance has revived excitement among fans and reignited hopes of bringing another championship to Madison Square Garden after decades of frustration.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals is scheduled for June 3, where New York will attempt to complete one of the most remarkable postseason runs in franchise history.
