Club América defeat Washington Spirit 5-3 for CONCACAF W Champions Cup title

Club América secured the 2026 CONCACAF W Champions Cup title after defeating Washington Spirit 5-3 in an action-packed final at Hidalgo Stadium in Pachuca, Mexico.

The Mexican side completed a dramatic performance led by captain Scarlett Camberos, who delivered one goal and two assists to help Club América lift the regional championship trophy.

Club América Dominate Early Stages

Club América opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Aylín Aviléz finished a well-worked move created by Camberos.

Just five minutes later, Brazilian forward Geyse Ferreira doubled América’s advantage, putting the Liga MX Femenil champions firmly in control during the first half.

However, Washington Spirit responded before halftime through Sofia Cantore, whose long-range strike from outside the box reduced the deficit and gave the National Women’s Soccer League side fresh momentum.

Washington Spirit Fight Back

The Spirit came out aggressively in the second half, equalizing only 35 seconds after the restart through Rosemonde Kouassi.

Kouassi struck again in the 58th minute to give Washington a 3-2 lead, continuing her outstanding tournament form. The forward finished as the competition’s top scorer with six goals overall.

Despite the comeback, a costly mistake by Washington goalkeeper Sandy MacIver allowed Geyse to score her second goal of the match in the 61st minute, leveling the game at 3-3.

Camberos Leads América to Historic Triumph

As the match entered its closing stages, Spanish midfielder Irene Guerrero scored the decisive goal in the 79th minute with another assist from Camberos.

Deep into stoppage time, Camberos added a goal of her own to seal a memorable 5-3 victory and confirm Club América as champions of the region.

Her outstanding performance earned her the Player of the Final award.

Gotham FC Finish Third

Earlier in the day, NJ/NY Gotham FC, the defending tournament champions, suffered a 3-0 defeat against Pachuca in the third-place match.

Washington Spirit had reached the final after defeating Pachuca 1-0 in the semifinals, while Club América advanced by overpowering Gotham FC 4-1.

The victory marks Club América’s rise as one of the dominant forces in women’s football across the CONCACAF region.
