Christy Carlson Romano, beloved for her roles on Disney Channel’s Even Stevens and as the voice of Kim Possible, has revealed that her recent cancer screening returned a positive result. The 41-year-old actor and mother of two shared the news in an emotional video posted on social media, emphasizing her commitment to facing the diagnosis with resilience.
Romano explained that the screening was prompted by her family history. Both of her parents were diagnosed with cancer, and her father passed away from the disease. Additionally, one of her grandmothers died of lung cancer. “My husband’s results came back completely negative,” Romano said. “Mine, however, did not, which means there is a possibility of stageable cancer.”
She detailed that her next step involves undergoing a PET scan, a process complicated by insurance coverage challenges. “Cancer is everywhere, which is why I got this test,” Romano shared. “I was filming and feeling so happy to be back on set that I didn’t want to think about it. But this is real, and it’s serious.”
Romano, who hosts the popular podcast Vulnerable, reflected on the emotional weight of the situation, especially as a parent. “It’s time to have a strong sense of faith and know that it’s in God’s hands. People may think I’m overreacting, but I’m not, because cancer is a serious matter, and I have two little girls,” she said.
Despite the difficult news, Romano expressed determination to approach each day as it comes. She also announced plans to release a memoir soon, giving fans insight into her personal journey and professional experiences.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cancer affects roughly 442 out of every 100,000 people in the United States, highlighting the prevalence and significance of early detection.
Romano’s candid update has drawn an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues, reinforcing the importance of awareness, routine screenings, and open conversations about health.
