Neighbors described the atmosphere as one of shock, sadness, and disbelief. Christmas decorations swayed gently on a towering evergreen just behind the couple’s main gate, where mourners had placed small bouquets, candles, and white hydrangeas. Screenwriter Ken Nolan, who collaborated with the Reiners on a 2018 film, laid flowers at the gate and recalled their warmth and generosity. “It’s really horrible. It’s a Greek tragedy,” Nolan said, remembering Michele Reiner’s sharp wit and kindness.
