ST. LOUIS — A man was shot and killed by police early Friday after allegedly brandishing a knife and advancing toward officers outside a terminal at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, authorities said. No other injuries were reported.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. local time, according to St. Louis County Police spokesperson Vera Clay. Officers approached the man after spotting him in a restricted area outside the airport entrance. When asked to leave, he refused.
Clay said the man then revealed a knife, prompting officers to deploy Tasers in an attempt to subdue him. Despite the electric shocks, the man continued moving toward the officers. One officer fired their weapon, striking the man and fatally injuring him.
The man’s identity has not been released, and investigators have not disclosed what led him to the restricted area.
Airport officials were not immediately available to comment on whether the shooting caused any disruptions to travel operations.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
